Obituary of Edward Earl Martin

Edward Earl Martin, 80 of Bedford passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital.  He was born February 25, 1944 in Bedford County, a son of the late Alvin Martin and Elizabeth Brown Martin.

He was a journalist with Business North Carolina and was previously employed by the Durham Morning Herald and the Charlotte Observer, where he was part of a Pulitzer team.  He won many journalism awards and accolades, one being an award covering Civil Rights.  He was also a veteran of the U. S. Army. 

He is survived by his wife, Natalie K. Martin; his niece, Terri Martin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bedford Humane Society, 829 Old Turnpike Road, Bedford, VA  24523.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1 PM on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Mentow Baptist Church and a funeral service will follow at 2 PM officiated by Dr. Rick Foster.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
