Obituary of Allen Edward Fisher
Allen Edward Fisher, 88, of Montvale, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at his residence. He was born on Thursday, July 25, 1935 to the late Wilford Moseley Fisher & Carrie Dooley Fisher. He was also preceded in death by his son, Brian Fisher & son-in-law, Ralph Ore.
Allen grew up on a farm in Thaxton and graduated from Montvale High School in 1953.
He went to work at John H. Hampshire, Baltimore, MD out of high school. Allen started as an apprentice as a lather in 1953 and was in construction for 30 years. From 1985-2000, he was the Vice President of Roanoke Construction Company.
In his construction career, he helped build Carter County Hospital in Elizabethton, TN, was a foreman on a underground bomb shelter (Presidential Fallout Shelter) at The Greenbriar in WV, was also a foreman for Green Bank, WV on the astronomy scope and worked on the first building ever built at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. Allen also worked on many area hospitals including Roanoke Memorial Hospital and Roanoke Community Hospital. He worked from Maryland all the way to South Carolina. He also worked on Plaza 1 Haige Towers in Norfolk, was the project manager for the N & W building in downtown Roanoke, Radison Hotel in Lynchburg & did 2 remodels for Tanglewood Mall in Roanoke.
Allen loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He always had a huge garden where he could feed most of the neighborhood. He was an anonymous giver and was always willing to help anyone in need. He could fix anything and shared his wisdom with anyone who inquired.
He is survived by his daughter and caregiver, Hope Ore and grandson, Jeremy Ore.
The family would like to say thanks to Carilion Hospice of Roanoke for the care they did for Allen, especially Diane, Drew & his phenomenal nurse, Tracy; also a special thanks to his caregiver, Rena Capps.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Chaplain Seth McCormack officiating. Interment will follow in Glade Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.
