Obituary of Robert E. Hartman, Jr.

Robert (Bob) E. Hartman, Jr. of Thaxton, VA passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

Bob was born on October 29, 1943 in Paris Island, SC. He was the only son of the late Robert and Eva Hartman. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Ann Hartman and is survived by his

child, Robin Hartman and her husband, Rick Comer and granddaughter, Amber Jackson.

He proudly served his country when he joined the U. S. Army in April of 1964. Bob was an exceptional business man who started his own business, Weldex Sales Corporation in 1978. He worked so hard to build a very successful business that is still thriving today. Bob was always known to be one of the most generous and compassionate individuals. Some of his hobbies included traveling, sport fishing and he had a passion for flying; becoming an accomplished pilot. He was a great mentor to many.

In addition to his daughter, son-in-law & granddaughter, Bob is survived by his wife, Bonnie Dagenhart Hartman; step-son, Jay Dagenhart and his wife, Elaine and their children Skye, Summer, Saige; step-granddaughters, Danya Gibbs and her children Tyler, Lane and Everitt, Ally Dagenhart. & special friend, Will Robertson.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, those wishing to, may send donations to Bob’s church, Peaks Community Church, PO Box 1364, Bedford VA 24523 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 5 until 7 PM on Tuesday, June 11 at the funeral home.
