Obituary of Betty Wilson Witt

Betty Wilson Witt, 87 of  Bedford, passed away Monday, September 9, 2024 at Heritage Green.  She was born on Wednesday, July 22, 1937  in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Charlie Collier Wilson and Lucy Elizabeth Goodman Wilson.  She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Alfred Wilson, Robert Wilson, Shirley Burnette, Lillie Parrish, Louise Eades, Elaine Wilson, and James Wilson.

She worked at Lyle's Drug Store and retired from the Peaks of Otter Visitors Center after eighteen years.   She volunteered for and was a donor of the American Red Cross, Bedford Ride, Farm Bureau Womens Committee, was a member of the Rebekahs and also a Sunday School teacher and director at Bedford Baptist Church.  She loved to travel and was an expert seamstress.  

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Allen Edward Witt, Jr.;  daughters, Dale Miller, and Judy Witt;  sister, Martha Hudson (Don); brothers, Joe Wilson (Ginny), Ed Wilson; sister-in-law, Patricia Wilson; brothers-in-law, Charles Parrish & Talmyr Witt.  

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Bedford Baptist Church, 1516 Oakwood Street, Bedford, VA 24523.  

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Bedford Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Khol officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
