Barry L. Fuqua, 64 of Bedford, formerly of Vinton, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011 surrounded by his family. Barry was predeceased by his father and mother, Jimmy and Lucille Dillard Fuqua. He is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Nancy Moseley Fuqua; sons, Chris Fuqua and wife, Tammy, Jeff Fuqua; Ryan Fuqua and fiancé, Gena Miller; grandson and the light of his life Gavin Fuqua; brothers, Tommy Fuqua and wife, Hazel, Terry Fuqua and wife, Rhonda; sister-in-law, Pat Nash and husband, David along with nephews and step grandchildren. Barry was a loving and devoted husband, father, "Gramps", brother and friend. His undaunting courage, strength, resilience and most of all his undying faith were an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Barry served in the United States Navy and Navy Reserves. He retired from Norfolk Southern as a Supervisor of Intermodel Maintenance. A long time resident of Vinton, Barry was a life member of the Vinton Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Chief for sixteen years until his job with Norfolk Southern transferred him to Atlanta. Barry earned the respect of others throughout the Fire Service community for his commitment and dedication to the Vinton Volunteer Fire Department. The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 15, 2011 at 1 PM at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church with Father Sal Añonuevo offficiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 until 6 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
