Obituary of Phyllis Orange Truxell

Phyllis Orange Truxell, 83 of  Thaxton, passed away Friday, October 11, 2024 at Bedford County Nursing Home.  She was born on Monday, March 3, 1941 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Rudolph Haynes and Elsie Orange Haynes.  She was also preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Cundiff.

Phyllis worked at the 297 and Bedford Minute Markets as bookkeeper for many years and retired as a bank teller with the Bank of Botetourt.  In retirement, she enjoyed bus trips, cruises and watching her granddaughters and great granddaughter.  She was a member of Thaxton Baptist Church, was a fantastic cook and was very active at the church in fellowship with cooking and planning functions. She was also a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed watching tennis & playing in her younger days.

She is survived by her daughter, Melody Dooley (John); her granddaughters, Zana D. Smith (Scott), Jordan Overstreet (Wesley); her great-granddaughter, Delaney Poff (Jonathan); her sister, Patsy Overstreet; first cousin, Carolyn Davenport (Carlisle); brother-in-law, Jimmy "Shorty" Cundiff;  special friend, Sandra Abbott and many nieces & nephews.  

The family would like to thank the staff at Bedford County Nursing Home for the care and love shown while Phyllis was a resident.  Special thanks to her niece, Tammy Wheeler for the unending attention, compassion and love she gave freely.

Funeral services will be held at the graveside at Thaxton Baptist Church Cemetery at 2 PM on Sunday, October 13, 2024 with Pastor Ethen Strickler and Pastor Randy Krantz officiating.  There is no visitation.
