Obituary of Joan Hughes West

Joan Hughes West, 81 of  Lynch Station, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at her residence.  She was born on Thursday, April 1, 1943, a daughter of the late Lonnie Russell Hughes and Pearl Moschler Hughes.  She was also preceded in death by husband, Roger Keith West, brothers, Berman Hughes (Vernon), Lendon Hughes and sisters, Clarice (Pete) Farmer, Margaret Ann Davis & brothers-in-law, Dan Justice and Howard Cox.    

Joan was a longtime hairdresser in Altavista and was a faithful member of  Lynch Station Baptist Church.  She enjoyed fishing at Leesville Lake, camping at the beach and NASCAR races.  

She is survived by her sons, Troy West, Mel West (Kim); her grandchildren, Tyler & Brynnlee West; sisters, Ruth Cox, Brenda Justice; brother, Howard Hughes (Gerline); sister-in-law, Sylvia Hughes and well as numerous nieces & nephews. 

A special thanks to her caregivers, Sarah Garrett, Rose Nibblett, Marie Clark, Betty Hunt & Jesse Tucker for their kind and compassionate care. 

A graveside service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at the Mt. Hermon Church Cemetery with Rev. Scott Doran officiating.  There is no visitation.
