Obituary of James Russell Arthur, Jr

James Russell Arthur, Jr. 75, of Huddleston, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024.  He was born on Wednesday, October 5, 1949, to the late Russell Arthur & Etta Marie Godbey Arthur.  He is also preceded in death by a half-sister, Mary Jane Seibel.

James retired from B & W after 37 years of service as a machinist.  He was a member of Mentow Baptist Church.  James was an avid hunter and loved everything about the outdoors.  He also loved working in the garden and enjoyed country music and spent many happy hours listening to his extensive CD collection.

He is survived by his daughters, Angela Arthur & Laura Carter; step-daughter, Susan Gleich; grandchildren, Ian Joaquin-Arthur (Michelle) & Liam Joaquin-Arthur, Ellie & Jackson Carter; brother, Charles Arthur (Brenda); sisters, Barbara Woodford (Thomas) & Rose Snidow; niece, Mary Elizabeth Pemberton; his very dear friends, Will McChesney, Wayne Ashwell & Mike Gillespie.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Oakwood Health & Rehab for their care, especially Tomique, “his angel on earth”.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Mentow Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Friday, November 22, 2024 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.  The family will receive guests immediately after the service at the Glenwood Center with lunch provided.
