Obituary of Catheryn Padgett Musgrove

Catheryn Padgett Musgrove, at the remarkable age of 102, of Bedford, Virginia passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024.   Born February 11, 1922 in Bedford,Virginia, daughter of the late Kerford Shelton Padgett and Hazel Zimmerman Padgett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Goggin Nichols Musgrove, a daughter, Brenda Musgrove Woodring and a son-in-law, Wayland Beecher Denton lll.  She was the oldest of six children yet was preceded in death by all of her siblings and their spouses, Gerald Padgett (Betty), Fred Hubert Padgett (Dottie), Bobbie Padgett (Barbara), Helen Christine Thomas (Walter), and Jack Padgett (Norma).

She is survived by a daughter, Kay Musgrove Denton, son-in-law, Paul Burton Woodring;  grandchildren, Warren Steven Overstreet (Emily), Leslie Overstreet Bowyer ( Allan), Wayland Beecher Denton IV(special friend, Rebekha), Garrett Nichols Denton ( Tiffany), Timothy Paul Woodring (Beth); Nine great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.

Catheryn was full of life. In 1938 she began her career as a beautician. She understood style and fashion and made sure that all of her clients looked their best, eventually co-owning Style-Rite Beauty Shop.  She was known for her quick wit, sass, golfing and bridge skills. She loved entertaining friends and baking for family. The secret to her long life is she lived a life that so many strive for-do the very best you can and don’t worry about the rest. She was a member of the Bedford Baptist Church. 

A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 3 PM at Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Micheal Khol officiating.  Immediately after the graveside service family and friends are invited to 1320 Boone Drive, Bedford, VA  to share some of Catheryn’s  favorite cakes and coffee.
