Obituary of Claude Humphrey Patterson
Claude Humphrey "Hump" Patterson, our beloved Dad, 92 of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born February 20, 1932 in Bedford County a son of the late Jack Edward Patterson, Sr. & Annie McFall Patterson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jack E. Patterson, Jr., David R. Patterson, Kenneth D. Patterson and his sister, Joyce Patterson Laughlin.
Claude was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in the Korean War. Upon his return, he worked for Adams Construction Company for twenty-five years as a superintendent before founding Patterson Brothers Paving, Inc in 1981. He loved farming and spending time on his John Deere equipment and after his retirement, he owned Otter Creek Angus Farm where he enjoyed having cattle on his farm. He also loved coon hunting with his family and friends. He was a member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Jean Overstreet Patterson; his sons, Randall G. Patterson (Karen), Ralph E. Patterson (Carol), Michael C. Patterson (Margaret); his grandchildren, Brandon (Kristi), Daniel (Tamara), Miranda, Garrett, Marshall (Stephanie); six step grandchildren, Kendall, Ryan J. (Melanie), Ryan T., Cory, Beth, Leanne (Colbey), eighteen great grandchildren; his sister, Carolyn Faye Patterson Shaner as well as numerous nieces & nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Quaker Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or Timber Ridge Baptist Church.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Timber Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Phil Kelley officiating. Interment will follow at 3 PM in the Quaker Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Bedford.
