Obituary of William Burnette JR

William Homer Burnette, Jr., 78 of Bedford, passed away Monday, September 12, 2011 at Oakwood Health & Rehab. Center. He was born on Monday, May 22, 1933 in Bedford County, a son of the late William Homer Burnette, Sr. and Bertha Turner Burnette. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Burnette and brothers-in-law, Willie Rucker Wright, Paul W. Leftwich, Joseph Odell Bolling. He was retired from Rubatex Corporation with forty four years service and was a member of Thaxton Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and sang in the choir. He also volunteered with Bedford Christian Ministries and Bedford Ride. Surviving is his beloved and faithful wife of fifty-three years, Shirley Leftwich Burnette; a son, David W. Burnette & wife, Ramona; a daughter, Melanie B. Tuck & husband, Van; his grandchildren, Crysta Mitchell, Mikala Travis, Deric Burnette, Chelsey Burnette; two brothers, J. T. Burnette & wife, Helen, Rucker Burnette & wife, Mary Fern; two sisters, Dorothy Jean Hannabass & husband, Bobby, Eunice Bolling; his sisters-in-law, Mary L. Wright, Lorraine H. Leftwich, Clara B. Burnette. The family would like to offer special thanks to the nurses and staff of Oakwood Health and Rehab.Center as well as Dr. Linda Beahm and Bedford Carilion Hospice. The family requests that those wishing to make memorials consider the Thaxton Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 32, Thaxton, VA 24174 or Bedford Carilion Hospice, P. O. Box 688, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Thaxton Baptist Church with Rev. Rucker Burnette, Rev. Dr. Eldridge Cullum and Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. Friends may call Wednesday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 5 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
