Obituary of James Bryant

James Alvin Bryant, 91 of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Oakwood Health & Rehab. Center. He was born on Tuesday, March 16, 1920 in Bedford Co. a son of the late James A. Bryant, Sr. and Eula Agee Bryant. He was also preceded in death by a son, James Edward Bryant. He was a retired meat cutter & produce manager at Harris-Teeter, was a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served in World War II. He was a member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School director, a deacon, served on the building and grounds committee and was in charge of the cemetery for many years. Surviving is his wife, Ellie Mae Pond Bryant of Bedford; four sons, Billy Lee Bryant & wife, Mary Lee of Moneta, Thomas Wayne Bryant & wife, Rachel of Lyndhurst, Michael Dean Bryant & wife, Sandra of Roanoke, Steven Lewis Bryant & wife, Lisa of Bedford; a daughter-in-law, Billie Bryant of Bedford as well as nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Timber Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, 3234 Timber Ridge Road, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 11:00 am at Timber Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Sims officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call Friday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 4 until 7 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
