Hugh Watts Key, Sr., 92 of Bedford, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Monday, February 24, 1919 in Bedford County, a son of the late T. Bernard Key and Rachael Wilkerson Key. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, W. Brooks Key, two brothers, Morris B. Key and Bennie Key, two sisters, Margaret Key Moore and Lucille Hicks. He was a retired employee of Elks City Auto Supply/ Napa Auto Parts and was also a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served in World War II in the Pacific, was a part of the first wave sent in when the Japanese surrendered. Surviving is his wife, Margaret Turner Key; a son, H. Watts Key, Jr. & wife, Cindy of Bedford, a granddaughter, Dana M. Key of Bedford, a great-granddaughter, Danielle Williams of Bedford, two brothers-in-law, John Turner & wife, Polly of Bedford, Otis O. Martin of Bonifay, FL; and his former daughter-in-law, Debbie Croft Key of Bedford. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 11537, Alexandria, VA 22312. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford. The friends will receive friends Monday from 5:30 until 7:30 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
