Shirley Haynes Cundiff, 64, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born on Thursday, February 6, 1947 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Edward Rudolph Haynes and Elsie Lucille Orange Haynes. She was an employee of Sam Moore Furniture Company and was a member of Thaxton Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Jimmy W."Shorty" Cundiff ; two sons, Jimmy W. Cundiff, Jr. & wife, Liane of Montvale, and Jeff E. Cundiff & wife, Tammy S. Wheeler of Bedford; three grandchildren, Savannah Cundiff, Ethan Cundiff, and Ella Grace Cundiff; two sisters, Phyllis C. Truxell of Thaxton, and Patsy Lucille Overstreet of Lynchburg; also numerous nieces & nephews. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Thaxton Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. 32, Thaxton, VA 24174. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Dr. Eldridge Cullum officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
