Obituary of Edna Hubbard
Please share a memory of Edna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
God looked down, and with his love and mercy, called one of his children home to live in Paradise forever and ever today, who was one of the "Greatest Generation" of an era, the most loving, beautiful, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and example of a child of Christ. On the morning of September 30, 2011, Edna Irene Dillon Hubbard, age 87 of Bedford went home to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ forever. She was born August 17, 1924 in the community of Scruggs, Franklin County, Virginia. Edna was the youngest daughter of Herbert Lee and Hattie Ann Holland Dillon of Franklin County, Virginia. She is survived by her loving, devoted, husband of almost 70 years Woodrow Wilson Hubbard of Bedford County, Virginia as well as five children, Boyd W. Hubbard and wife, Linda, Donald W. Hubbard and wife, Mary , Herbert Lee Hubbard and wife, Cindy, David Robert Hubbard and wife, Cindy and one daughter, Debbie Joy Boswell. She is survived by thirteen grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren of which she considered grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Perry Dillon of Motley, Virginia, and Farrest Dillon of Rocky Mount, Virginia. She was lovingly known as Edna, Mama, Grandma, and to some, her special name "Nanny", as well as being a very loving person. She was a very devoted mother, as well as a totally devoted wife, who faithfully drove every day to Oakwood Manor to be at her husband's side tirelessly for hours, until she was physically unable to do so, after which she still went with the aid of her children and grandchildren. She passionately loved animals and had a smile to make anyone feel at home. Her big love in life was her Savior Jesus Christ. They said her heart was bad, but anyone that knew her knew that she was all heart. She always took care of her family and was always a peacemaker. You could always tell what she was cooking in the kitchen from a distance by the aromas, of which her home cooked meals will always be remembered as the best. She worked at Moneta Dress Factory, and taught at Longwood Ave. Christian Daycare where she loved children, and was a very skilled seamstress who always loved to sew, and make beautiful clothes, and the most beautiful quilts. She was a member of the Peaks and Pieces Quilt Guild of whom she had a lot of dear friends there. You would always notice with her at her bed side her Bible of which she loved to read God's Word, and was a witness for the Lord. She was also a founding member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church along with her husband, Woodrow Wilson Hubbard, of which Rev. Ralph Norwood was Pastor. She attended Timber Ridge Baptist Church, where she was also a member, and when her health permitted, attended regularly. She will be greatly missed in this life, but the blessed assurance is that she is with her Lord and Savior forever and ever.. A special Thank You to the staff at Oakwood Health & Rehab. Center, and Cathy from Hospice, for the care and love they provided, and to all of those who visited, provided rides, picked up medicine, groceries, or simply called just to tell her they loved her or simply offer kind words. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 until 5 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
