Edna Crouch Ashwell, 88 of Huddleston, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. She was born on Wednesday, March 28, 1923 in Roanoke, VA, a daughter of the late Delbert Joel Crouch and Ada McBride Crouch. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Moorman B. Ashwell. She was a member of Mentow Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughters, Linda A. Jennings & husband, Bobby of Altavista, Ruby A. Barbour & husband, Vincent of Hurt; three sons, Donald W. Ashwell & wife, Nancy of Altavista, Ray Ashwell of Long Beach, CA, Charles Ashwell & wife, Brenda of Huddleston; ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Lorene Arthur, Alma Morgan, Katherine Pruitt; a brother, Riley Crouch. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Huddleston Lifesaving Crew, P. O. Box 77, Huddleston, VA 24104 or Huddleston Fire Department, 5377 Smith Mountain Lake Parkway, Huddleston, VA 24104 . Funeral services will be held at the graveside at Virginia Memorial Park on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 11:00 am with Rev. Vernon DeLong officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 until 5 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston and other times at the home of Charles Ashwell in Huddleston.
