William Martin Obituary

William Roy Martin, 72 of Bedford, passed away Monday, November 14, 2011 at his residence. He was born on Tuesday, November 29, 1938 in Moneta, a son of the late William Penn Martin and Ruby Harris Martin . He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Martin. He retired from Rubatex as a diemaker after over 40 years of service. Roy enjoyed spending time with family & friends, camping, NASCAR, gardening and working on lawnmowers. Surviving is his wife of 46 years, Jane Cunningham Martin; a daughter, Kellee M. Martin of Bedford; a son, Eric W. Martin & wife, Christi E. Martin of Bedford; and grandson, William Grant Martin of Bedford; two sisters, Thelma M. Perdue, Betty M. Bobbitt & husband, Warren all of Moneta; a brother, Calvin E. Martin & wife, Donna of Copper Hill, as well as several nieces & nephews. The family would like to thank nurse Crystal Meadows of Centra Hospice for her comfort and loving care as well as Beth Baker and Dr. Brad Hoyt for their wonderful care. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastor Greg Rogers and Bobby Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
