Lora Jean Turpin, 81 of Bedford, VA passed away Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born on Sunday, April 27, 1930 in Virginia. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Katie Witt Zimmerman, her husband, James Wilson Turpin and a daughter, Linda Sue Turpin. She was a retired employee of Sam Moore Furniture. Surviving is her son, James Walter Turpin & life partner, Marlene Henson of Lynchburg, her daughter, Betty Jo Turpin of Bedford, three grandsons, Cory Lee Byrd, Kristopher Shaun Turpin & wife, Leah, Jeremy Chad Turpin, three great-grandchildren, Shae Alicia Byrd, Ava & Maxwell Turpin; and Lora's companion, Dan Hardy of Bedford. Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside at Greenwood Cemetery on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from 11 until 12 preceding the service at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
