Onyx Davis "Pete" Ferguson, 89 of Huddleston, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011 at his residence. He was born on Wednesday, April 12, 1922 in Bedford County, a son of the late Roscoe Ferguson and Nora Jean Blankenship Ferguson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Opal June Karnes Ferguson, a grandson, Kenneth Ferguson and his sister Pauline Mitchell. He was a mechanic at Ashwell Motor Company and retired from Rubatex Corporation after 28 years of service. He was a lifelong farmer who was always proud of his garden. He was a U. S. Army veteran having served in World War II. Surviving are two sons, Willard Davis Ferguson & wife, Zenna of Huddleston, Randy Lee Ferguson & wife, Joyce of Moneta; two daughters, Judy Ferguson & friend, Dan Sanders of Thaxton, Pamela Ferguson Parker & husband, James of Bedford, five grandchildren, Karen O'Brien & husband, David, Jennifer Overstreet & husband, Travis, Matthew Parker, Brandy Smith & husband, Johnny, Kyle Primm, as well as seven great grandchildren. The family would like to thank Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their kind care and compassion. The family requests those wishing to make memorials are asked to consider the Huddleston Fire Department, 5377 Smith Mountain Lake Parkway, Huddleston VA 24104. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston with Rev. Jackie Carver officiating. Interment, with military honors by American Legion Post # 16, will follow in Palestine Church Cemetery. Friends may call Monday after 2 PM and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
