Obituary of Samuel Howell

Samuel Orville Howell, 72 of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born on Thursday, January 26, 1939 in Bedford County, a son of the late William Orville Howell and Oreta Smallwood Howell. He was a retired from the U. S. Postal Service and he raised black angus cows. He was a member of Mentow Baptist Church. Surviving is his wife of thirty years, Mary N. Howell; his daughter, Stephanie Staton & husband, Mike of Forest, Connie Howell of Richmond, Valerie H. Tyree of Lynchburg, a step-son, Tony Lee Nichols of Huddleston & wife, Gypsy of Bedford, a sister, Josephine H. Thomas & husband, Hoover of Raleigh, NC, a brother, Glen D. Howell of GA, grandchildren, Joshua Staton & wife, Valerie of Huddleston, Morgan Staton of Greensboro, NC, Kelly Baldwin of Blacksburg, Brandi Tyree of Lynchburg, two step-grandsons, Troy Nichols & wife, Amanda of Abingdon, Eric Nichols of Huddleston, three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth & Benjamin Nichols of Abingdon, Eva Staton of Huddleston. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston with Rev. Greg Soult officiating. Interment will follow in Mentow Baptist Church Cemetery.
