Andrew Milton Cheek, 90 of Huddleston, passed away Friday, January 6, 2012 at his residence. He was born on Saturday, March 19, 1921 in Bedford County, a son of the late Luther Calvin Cheek and Bertha Mae Hodges Cheek. He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Arthur Hemmerlein, a brother, Mercer Cheek and a great grandson, Daryn Tyler Hackworth. He was a member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, a former member of the Huddleston Ruritan Club and was a founding member of both the Huddleston Fire Department and Rescue Squad. Surviving is his wife, Lillian Howell Cheek; a son, Roger W. Cheek & wife, Sheron of Bedford; two daughters, Bonnie C. Hemmerlein of Emerald Isle, NC, Rita C. Hackworth & husband, Steve of Huddleston; six grandchildren, Michael Cheek & wife, Debi, April Cheek Messier & husband, John; Jennifer Hemmerlein & husband, Pat Godwin; Jonathan Hemmerlein & wife, Kelli, Jeremy Hackworth & fiance, Debbie Holland, Brandon Hackworth, twelve great grandchildren; a sister, Beatrice C. Dawson of Huddleston. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church Cemetery, c/o Jan Burnette, 6325 Smith Mountain Lake Parkway, Huddleston, VA 24104. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Huddleston with Rev. David Bayse and Rev. Bryan Sheehan officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday after 1 PM and the family will receive friends from 4 until 7 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
