Patria Dowdy Nichols, 69 of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Bedford County Nursing Home. She was born on Wednesday, December 16, 1942, a daughter of the late John Henry Dowdy and Callie Newman Dowdy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard S. Nichols, Sr. Surviving are her daughters, Mary N. Oakley of Brits, Laura L. Nichols of AL; her sons, Richard S. Nichols, Jr., Walter H. Nichols, both of Bedford; two brothers, John Calvin Dowdy, James E. Dowdy, both of Lynch Station, as well as eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. At her request, there will be no funeral service, however the family will receive friends Friday, February 10, 2012 from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
