Obituary of Katherine Wood

Katherine Nichols Wood, 84 of Huddleston, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Oakwood Health & Rehab. Center. She was born on Monday, January 30, 1928 in Bedford Co., a daughter of the late Alvin L. Nichols Sr. and Jennie Lou Roberts Nichols. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Allen Wood, a granddaughter, Kaitlin Olivia Burnette; five brothers, Basil Nichols, Travis Nichols, Ray B. Nichols, Troy Lee Nichols and Alvin L. Nichols, Jr. and four sisters, Agnes Guthrie, Inez Barber, Lorene Dare Johnson and Isabelle Hughes. She was a retired employee of the Rubatex Corporation and was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church. Surviving is her daughter, Tina Wood Burnette & husband Tony of Huddleston; a grandson, Allen Pierce Burnette of Roanoke, sisters, Mary N. Wade of Hampton, Barbara Jane Padgett of Roanoke. The family requests no flowers and are asking those who wish to make memorials to consider the Bethesda United Methodist Church, c/o Claudine Preston, 1355 Preston Mill Road, Huddleston, VA 24104. The family would like to thank the following special friends and family: Jeff and Noemi Wade, Ross and Linda Wood, Laura Burnette, Mary Howell, Ann Nichols, Dr. Leonard Cohen and the staff of Eastlake Medical Center and Dr. Linda Beahm and the nurses and aides at Oakwood Manor Health & Rehab. Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 11 AM at Bethesda United Methodist Church by Rev. Sue Keen. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
