Mabel Jones Obituary

Mabel Hawkins Jones, 97 of Thaxton, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Oakwood Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Tuesday, April 28, 1914 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Edward Hawkins and Annie Overstreet Hawkins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd James Jones, five sisters and five brothers. She was a retired employee of Roanoke Garment Company. She is survived by her sons, Earl W. Jones, and Jessie C. Jones both of Thaxton; a granddaughter, Tara L. Jones of Bedford; and a sister, Virginia Hawkins, Salem. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Updike Funeral Home Chapel, Bedford with the Rev. Bob Sowder officiating. Interment will follow in Thaxton Baptist Church Cemetery . Friends may call after 12:00 noon Friday and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford
