Shirlene Martin Whitfield, 84 of Moneta, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Autumn Care of Altavista. She was born on Monday, October 17, 1927 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late James L. Martin and Beulah McBride Martin. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Russell T. Kendrick and Allen Whitfield. She was office manager at Shoprite. Surviving is her son, Roland L. Kendrick & wife, Connie of Altavista, VA; step grandson, Benny Saunders, Jr. & wife, Liza of Hurt, step granddaughter, Heather Erb of Altavista, her special friend, Mary Hall of Hurt. Funeral services will be held at the graveside at Morgans Baptist Church Cemetery on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Melvin Harris officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston
