Watkins Leftwich Gills, 87 of Bedford, VA passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was a resident of the Elks National Home. He was born on Monday, July 17, 1922 in Bedford Co., VA, a son of the late Hubert Aubrey Gills and Mary Ruth Leftwich Gills. In addition to his father & mother, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Billy M. Gills. He was a retired employee of the Rubatex Corporation, was a member of Elks Lodge # 2844, American Legion Post # 54, and Bedford Church of God.
He was a U. S. Army veteran having served in World War II. Surviving is his wife of twenty-six years, Cornelia May "Doris" Musselman Gills; a step-son, Lynwood Epperly & wife, Carolyn of Roanoke, a step-daughter, Linda Webber & husband, Roger of Bedford; four step-grandchildren, four step-great grandchildren.
The family requests that those wishing to make memorials consider the Elks National Home, 931 Ashland Avenue, Bedford, VA 24253. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. K. B. Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call Monday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation.
