Laurie Lee Olsen Thomas, 51 of Montvale, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born on Thursday, May 12, 1960 in Harrisonburg, a daughter of the late David L. Olsen and Annie Laurie Daniel Olsen of Roanoke, who survives. She was a Mental Health Provider at Support Services of Virginia and was a member & coach of the Bedford County Shooting Team. She was a loving & caring wife as well as a great mother who had a love for hunting, fishing, canoeing and the outdoors, especially searching for woodfish. She also enjoyed being a leader of scouting. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of twenty-three years, George Wingfield Thomas; her son, David E. Thomas, her daughter, Romona L. Thomas, both of Montvale; her maternal grandmother, Helen Daniel of Lexington; her brother, David Scott Olsen of Deleware; her sister, Nancy Lynn Ruben of Florida, as well as numerous aunts and uncles. A Service to celebrate the life of Laurie will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Mike Miller officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
