Mary Jackson Davenport, 96 of Bedford, passed away Monday, June 18, 2012 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born on Thursday, June 24, 1915 in Harnett County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late James Silas Jackson and Hattie Jackson Jackson . She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robin Helbert Davenport, her son-in-law, Kenneth O. Arrington, as well as two sisters and four brothers. She was a retired employee of Rubatex Corporation and was a member of Nicopolis United Methodist Church. Surviving is her daughter, Virginia D. Arrington of Bedford; two granddaughters, Tandee L. Lester of Lynchburg, Melinda L. Fitzgerald & husband, Kelly of Bedford; three great grandsons, Jared B., John R. & Jackson Lee of Bedford; three sisters-in-law, Mary Davenport, Roberta Carter and Esther Jackson. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Nicopolis United Methodist Church, c/o Kim B. Overstreet, 1208 Junction School Road, Bedford, VA 24253. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Nicopolis United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Burleigh officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, beginning at 11:30 AM at the church prior to the service. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
