Phyllis Gibson Watkins, 62 of Big Island, passed away Friday, June 15, 2012 at her residence. She was born on Friday, September 2, 1949 in Bedford Co., a daughter of the late George Buck Gibson and Mabel Ruth Goff Gibson. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Eldrich E. Gibson, Astor D. Gibson, Johnny Gibson and a sister, Lula M. Nicely. She attended Chestnut Hill Freewill Baptist Church. Surviving is her husband, Earl Franklin Watkins; a brother, Alvin D. Gibson of Hardy; a sister, Sally B. Bowyer of Big Island. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 11:00 am at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Pastor William Tonkin officiating. Interment will follow in Hunting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 17, 2012 from 4 until 6 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
