Obituary of Mildred Mitchell

Mildred Hendrick Mitchell, 86, of Bedford, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 11, 2012 . She was born February 2, 1926 in Bedford County, Va. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Thomas Mitchell (Bill); son, Leslie C. Mitchell; mother, Georgie Holland Hendrick; father, William Edward Hendrick; brothers, Claytor Hall, Ernest Hall, Hubert Hendrick, sisters, Mae Hackworth, Dorothy Johnson, Virginia Hudson. She is survived by four children, Gail M. Thomas,(Allen); Betty M. Inge, (Rucker); Willie Mitchell, (Susan); Vickie M. Karnes, (Willie); sister, Pauline Dickerson. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren, Michelle M.Culbertson; Michael Inge; Nancy I. Bradley (Kevin); Mac Parker; Brian Parker; Nic Parker; Jamie M. Taylor (Chad); Julie M. Darden (Brian). She was also very proud great-grandmother of five, who were always a sparkle in her eyes, Knox and Jaxson Taylor, Emily Grace Bradley, Jimmy and Madi Culbertson. Also her caregivers, who were like family to her, Sandra Reid, Janice Bobbitt, Loretta Caldwell, Rhonda Mitchell, Debra Hunter, Pam Gilreath and Regina Meador. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gentle Shepherd Hospice, 6045 Peters Creek Rd., Roanoke, VA 24019 or the Kidney Foundation of Virginia, 2601 Willard Road, Suite 103, Richmond, VA 23294. A funeral service will be held at on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford, with the Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in Virginia Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friend Tuesday, June 12, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m.at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
