John Joseph Peirano, Sr., 77 of Altavista, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born on Wednesday, February 27, 1935 in Patterson, NJ, a son of the late John Henry Peirano and Antoinette Maio Peirano. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Rhoda H. Peirano, two sons, Jerome & Jeffrey Peirano and a brother, Anthony Peirano. He was a retired employee of General Electric and a member of Christian Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was also a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps. Surviving is his wife, Sharon Wirt Peirano; two sons, John J. Peirano, Jr. & wife, Rhonda of Evington, Jack A. Peirano of Weaver, IA; three daughters, Joyce P. Younger of Lynchburg, Jackquelyn Tyree & husband, Jamie of Lynchburg, Jennifer P. Stocker & husband, David of Brookneal; special friends, Brenda Shelton, Crystal Jones & Mattie Grace Caegle; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Peirano of Wayne, NJ, Andrew Peirano of Frackville, PA,two sisters, Marie Anderson of Bedford, IN, Jacqueline Courter of Frackville, PA. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider the John J. Peirano, Sr., Memorial Fund, c/o Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, P. O. Box 926, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 8, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Christian Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Dennis Nichols & Rev. Roger Bush officiating. Interment, with military honors by American Legion Post # 16, will follow in Altavista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 07, 2012 from 7 until 8:30 PM at Christian Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
