Grady Earl Sumner, Sr., 86 of Bedford, passed away Monday, June 4, 2012 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was born on Friday, December 18, 1925 in Bedford County, a son of the late Buford Marshall Sumner and Estelle Gillaspie Sumner. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mirta Overstreet Sumner and a son, Kenneth D. Sumner. He was a retired employee of Rubatex Corporation. He was U. S. Navy Veteran having served in World War II. Surviving is his son, Grady E. Sumner, Jr. & wife, Karen of Goode; a daughter, Lisa S. Wilson & husband, Tim of Winder, GA; a step-daughter, Carolyn Overstreet of Bedford; two sisters, Peggy Branch, Reva Eubank both of Bedford, six grandchildren, Larkin, Taylor& Riley Wilson, Erin, Sara & Evan Sumner. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Dr. David H. Henderson officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
