Merriman Carlton Witt, 90 of Bedford, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012 at his residence. He was born on Sunday, December 11, 1921 in Bedford County, a son of the late John Clayton Witt and Myrtha Martin Witt. He was also preceded in death by a son, Kenny "Dash" Witt. He was a retired employee of the Lane Company and member of Ephesus United Methodist Church . He was also a World War II U. S. Army veteran participating in the 3rd wave of the D Day Normandy Invasion. Surviving is his wife of sixty-one years, Mildred Laughlin Witt; a daughter, Patricia Stevens & husband, Wilson of Bedford; two sons, Reggie Witt & wife, Wendy of Bedford, John Witt & wife, Penny of Bedford; a brother, Charles Witt of Bedford, fourteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Ephesus United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Casey officiating. Interment, with military honors by American Legion Post #16, will follow in the church cemetery. The family will received friends Tuesday from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at Ephesus United Methodist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
