James Gary Morgan, 67 of Moneta, is walking in greener pastures with his Lord by his side. He left this earth on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Lewis Gale Medical Center. He was born on Saturday, July 21, 1945 in Bedford Co., a son of Laura Manning Hicks Morgan of Moneta and the late James Nicholas Morgan. He was retired from the Vinton Police Department and worked part-time with the Roanoke Sheriffs Department. He loved farming & enjoyed spending time with family. He was also a member of Morgans Baptist Church. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Bertie Perdue Morgan; a daughter, Tara Morgan Sheets & husband, Grayson Todd of Huddleston; two step-daughters, Lisa G. Crotts & husband, W. G. of Salem, Tracy Perdue of Pigeon Forge, TN; a step-son, Shannon Wheeler & wife, Jennifer of Thaxton, six grandchildren, Ashley, Allison, Brooke, Emma, Grayson & Griffin; a sister, Caroll Gross; two nephews, Nicky Leftwich, Patrick Gross as well as many special friends & cousins. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 2316 Atherholt Road, Lynchburg, 24501. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 11:00 am at Morgans Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Mallory officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 until 8 PM at Morgans Baptist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
