Obituary of Carson Newcomb SR

Carson D. (Coupie) Newcomb, Sr., 79 of Goode, passed away Friday, July 27, 2012 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born on Sunday, March 5, 1933 in Bedford County , VA, a son of the late Henry David Newcomb and Ada Ash Newcomb . He was also preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Haylee Newcomb, a brother, Alton Newcomb, and a sister, Audrey Grover. He was a member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church, was retired from the Rubatex Corporation, owner of Newcombs Greenhouse and served in the Virginia National Guard. He also loved to hunt and fish and was an avid New York Yankees fan and other sports. Surviving is his wife of sixty years, JoAnn Desper Newcomb; three daughters, Becky N. Owens & husband, Johnny, Cindy N. Hubbard & husband, Herby, Faith N. Dooley & husband, Mark; a son, C. D. Newcomb, Jr. & wife, Donna; ten grandchildren, Jason, Brooke, Brandon, Ashleigh, Ashley, Amanda, Leslie, Kate, Steven and Brent, six great grandchildren and two on the way; his sister-in-law, Doris Newcomb, his brother-in-law, Paul Grover, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and alot of special friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Albert Baker and the staff of Centra Health for their kind and compassionate care. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Goode Lifesaving Crew, P. O. Box 178, Goode, VA 24556 or the Timber Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund, 3234 Timber Ridge Road, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012 at 12:00 pm at Timber Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. Friends may call Sunday after 12 noon and the family will receive friends from 2 until 5 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
