Frank Allen Edwards, 80 of Bedford, passed away Friday, July 13, 2012 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born on Monday, August 3, 1931 in Bedford County, a son of the late Robert David Edwards and Cottie Houston Edwards. He was a U. S. Army veteran having received the Purple Heart while serving during the Korean conflict. He was also a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church.. Surviving is his wife of sixty years, Ruby Estelle Burnett Edwards; a son, Roger A. Edwards of Bedford; three daughters, Martha E. Powers & husband, Bill of Farmville, Carolyn E. Martin of Thaxton, Theresa E. Key of Bedford; three grandchildren, Curtis Martin & wife, Karen, Matthew & John Powers; three great-grandchildren, Makenna Garrett, Aaron & Zackary Martin; a brother, Roderick Edwards of Bedford; two sisters, Edith B. Lugar & Shirley B. Lodge both of Bedford; special friends, Mike & Vicki Martin, Paul & John Pflugar, Remington & Allen Gulliams. Funeral services will be held at the graveside at Greenwood Cemetery, with military honors on Monday, July 16, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Mark Flores officiating. There is no visitation at the funeral home, however, the family will receive friends anytime at the home. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
