Esther Smith Ellis, 80 of Moneta, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2012 at her residence. She was born on Thursday, August 18, 1932 in Sweet Briar, VA, a daughter of the late Sidney W. Smith and Viola Madeline Saunders. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dalton L. Ellis. Surviving are her daughters, Linda Blessard & husband, Peanut of Botetourt County, VA, Diane Woody & husband, Kirt of FL, Sallie Bowden of Richmond, Sandra Harras & friend, Odell Martin of Moneta, Janet Fielder & husband, David of Moneta; a son, Gary Harras & wife, Bridget of FL; a sister, Harriet Spangler of Moneta; a brother, Arthur White of TN, fourteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; special friends, Janet Amos, Pam Morris & Kevin Carper. Funeral services will be held at the graveside at Holy Land USA Cemetery on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 11 AM with Rev. Jackie Carver officiating. Friends may call after 12 noon on Friday and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
