Obituary of Nelia Crowder

Nelia Overstreet Crowder, 97 of Bedford County, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Guggenheimer Nursing Home. She was born on Tuesday, October 20, 1914 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Wesley Howard Overstreet and Addie Jane Updike Overstreet. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mack Henry Crowder, Jr., her brother, Melvin H. Overstreet and her sisters, Lois O. Vandergrift, Frances O. Martin and Adell (Virginia) O. Karnes. Nelia was a loving mother, devoted to Quaker Baptist Church, a talented seamstress and a fried apple pie specialist. Surviving are her sons, Wesley I. Crowder & wife, Pat of Bedford, Reverend Nolan R. Crowder & wife, Sharon of Lynchburg, Henry D. Crowder & wife, Mary of Madison Heights; four grandchildren, Keith Crowder (Suzanne), Bruce Crowder & wife, Tabitha, Brian Crowder & wife, Anna, Christy Wilson & husband, Charlie; four great-grandchildren, Andrew Crowder, Julia Crowder, Emma Crowder, Caitlyn Wilson as well as other family. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Quaker Baptist Church with Rev. David Timma officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Quaker Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Quaker Baptist Church. 4665 Chestnut Fork Road, Bedford, VA 24523. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of the 3rd floor at Guggenheimer Nursing Home and Centra Hospice.
