Obituary of Edythe Davis

Edythe Davis left this life on August 15, 2012 at her home in Bedford, Va. She was born and raised in Kansas and spent fifty-eight years as a devoted wife to her rancher husband, Doug, who preceded her in death. Edythe was also preceded by two of her daughters, Gail and Sandy. Edythe was the dedicated mother to her five children, mother-in-law, grandmother and recent great grandmother. Those left behind to cherish her memory include a daughter, Merle & husband, Bob Gill; sons, Bill, Bob & wife, Mary Kathryn, son-in-law, Mike Markwald. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Mitchell Kurfis, Kaitlyn, Brian, Matt, Hannah, Caleb and Jenna Davis, and finally her newborn great grandchild, Olivia Davis. Edythe's remaining distant family members and siblings include her sister, Anna and her niece, Anna Marie and nephew, Lannie, all of Kansas City. Edythe spent her life in service to others working with the PTA, the Red Cross, and even coached a little league baseball team. Edtyhe was also an avid Bridge player and loved hosting occasional bridge games. She was a member of Bedford Presbyterian Church where a celebration of life service will be conducted on Monday, August 20 at 11 AM. The family wishes to thank the Southern Care Hospice for their tireless assistance throughout Edythes final months. Also, many thanks to her devoted caregivers, Jackie Michalski and Tammy Overstreet for their sacrificial care. Edythe's wishes were for no visitation and that any charitable memorials be sent to the Presbyterian Children's Home through Bedford Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
