Obituary of Thomas Reynolds

Thomas Edwin "Mike" Reynolds, age 99 of Bedford, Va. died Sunday, August 12, 2012 at his residence. He was born May 20, 1913 a son of the late Thomas H. and Jessie McAnally Reynolds. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marguerite Ramsey Reynolds who died in 1998; grandson, Michael D. Reynolds; and brother, Hobson Reynolds. Mike was a retired businessman. He was the owner of Peoples Furniture Company for 78 years and owned and operated Reynolds Cattle Farm where he raised Polled Hereford cattle. Mike was active in the Bedford Lions Club where he was the last charter member and recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow award. He was one of the founders of Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church where he served on various committees. He donated Reynolds Memorial Park in Bedford in memory of his grandson who preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Burrows Reynolds; two sons, Thomas E. "Tommy" Reynolds, Jr. and wife Roslyn C. Reynolds, Charles R. Reynolds; grandchildren, Bryan M. Reynolds and wife Kim S. Reynolds, Ona V. Reynolds, Rose Marie Reynolds, Dena R. Reynolds, Chad R. Reynolds; great-grandchildren, Adam Reynolds, Landon Reynolds; sister, Nan Reynolds; brothers, Charles Reynolds and wife Josephine Reynolds, Claude Reynolds and wife Anne Reynolds; and special pet, Holly. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Main Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Bart Weakley, Dr. Carl Douglass and Rev. Wayne Murphy. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Bryan Reynolds, Bob Corbin, Lee Flora, Tucker Ferguson, Alex Daniel, Dennis Gibbs, Doug Hawpe, and Nelson Leftwich. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Lions Club and the Coffee Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Home, P.O. Box 1398, Brookneal, Virginia 24528 or Main Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 505, Bedford, Va. 24523. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.
