Obituary of Woodrow Hubbard

Please share a memory of Woodrow to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Woodrow Wilson Hubbard, 98 went home to Heaven peacefully, after a longbout with illness Wednesday, August 8, 2012, God looked down, and with his love and mercy, called another one of his children home to live in Paradise forever and ever today, who was one of the "Greatest Generation".He was born in Bedford County, Virginia the oldest son of Robert Lee and Nannie Pagans Hubbard. Woodorw was preceded in death by his wife of almost 70 years Edna Hubbard, and is survived by four sons, Boyd (Linda), Donald (Mary), Herbert (Cindy) , David (Cindy), a daughter Debbie Boswell, a sister Lena (Dewey) Lipscomb, 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren . He was a World War II Veteran serving in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Picking DD685 Destroyer Squadron 49, and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars VA Post 2157, and a life member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Bedford Rifle Grays #1475, of which he was very proud of his Southern heritage, and grandfathers who followed General Robert E Lee. He was a member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church and also a Charter member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church, of which he helped build with his hands aided by his wife. Woodrow was an avid gardener, who always had the most beautiful vegetable gardens, and shared his harvest with everyone. If words in a dictionary could ever give the definition of what a father, Christian, Grandfather, and great grandfather, friend, and love and caring was, there would be a photo of Woodrow in the pages of any books describing any of the traits above. He also had a big heart for animals, and loved all of God's creatures. He had a passion for Baseball of which the New York Yankees were his favorite team, and the Dallas Cowboys, and Nascar Racing. He loved working and always said what his grandfather said that the days were too short to get done what he wanted to. Woodrow also loved his chewing tobacco, and his chewing gum of which if he seen you he would always offer you some. There are not enough words to describe what a loving person Woodrow was, and of all things in the world, he loved his saviour Jesus Christ, and instilled that faith in his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all, but now he is rejoicing in Heaven with his family and friends. Special Thanks to nursing staff, CNA's, Dr. Linda Beahm at Oakwood Health and Rehabilitation, and Bedford Hospice for the care given to our father during his illness.
