Obituary of Garland Witt SR

Garland Alvin Witt, Sr., 72 of Bedford, VA passed away Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Tuesday, September 5, 1939 in Bedford County, a son of the late Garland Edward Witt and Laura Wells Laughlin Witt. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Iris Virginia Amos Witt, 2 Brothers; Odell D. Witt and Wendall R. Witt, 2 Sisters; Nancy L. Lacy and Nina P. Arthur. He was retired from Rubatex after working for 41 years. He was a member of Nicopolis United Methodist Church. Dad was an avid fisherman and hunter, he loved the outdoors. Surviving is his daughter, Hilda Faith Witt & husband Roger Dale, a son, Garland Alvin Witt Jr., 5 Grandchildren, Christopher Dale Witt, Olivia Morgan Witt, Cody Wray Witt, Mary Elizabeth Witt, Michael Aaron Witt, all of Bedford, 3 Brothers, Landon E. Witt and Herman G. Witt both of Bedford and Sherman L. Witt of Evington, 3 sisters, Patricia Cunningham and Laura J. Bradley, both of Lynchburg and Charlotte S. Sexton of Goode and a special friend, Grace Nichols. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Nicopolis United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 11:00 am at Nicopolis United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Casey and Rev. Bryan Sheehan officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, August 06, 2012 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
