Obituary of Coryn Merritt

Coryn "Fid" Hogan Merritt, 93 of Bedford, VA passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Oakwood Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born September 5, 1918 in Roanoke, a daughter of the late William Dove Hogan and Nona Brooks Wilson Hogan . She was also preceded in death by her husband, Archie Lewis "Possum" Merritt, a son, Curtis Wayne Merritt, two brothers, C.J. Hogan & William C. Hogan, and a sister, Ruby Whitlock. She is survived by two sons, Ivan L. "Chappy" Merritt & wife, Alice, and Wesley Gene Merritt & wife, Debbie, all of Bedford; a daughter, Sue Merritt Dunn & husband, Larry of Salem; a daughter-in-law, Gloria G. Merritt of Lynchburg; grandsons, Christopher W. Merritt & wife, Lori of Richmond, John W. Merritt & wife, Melissa of Bedford, Brian G. Merritt & wife, Liz of Bedford and Cory D. Dunn of Salem, granddaughter, Stephanie Meyer & husband, Craig of Richmond, great-granddaughters, HayLee E. Merritt and Kristen N. Merritt, great-grandsons, Benjamin Meyer and Sam Merritt, step great-grandson, David Bays, brother-in-law, J.W. Whitlock of Salem. The family wishes to thank Bedford County Nursing Home, Oakwood Health & Rehabilitation Center and Carilion Hospice of Bedford for the care extended to Fid. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at 3:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
