Mr. William "Lewis" Poindexter Sr. of Bedford, Virginia departed this world September 22nd, 2012. Lewis was born September 22nd, 1937 in Franklin County, Virginia to the late Hardy and Mattie Poindexter. Lewis later moved to Bedford County where he married Beatrice Calloway. Lewis was a faithful member of the Bold Branch Baptist Church where he served until his health failed him. He was employed at the former Webster Brick Company (General Shale) in Blue Ridge, Virginia. Lewis was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis Poindexter and Jimmy Poindexter, both of Bedford and two sisters, Reva P. Hughes, Bedford and Nanny Akyea Richie, Silver Springs, MD. He is survived by two son; William L. (Janet) Poindexter Jr. and Ellis Wayne (Tracie) Poindexter, both of Bedford, one daughter, Mildred Huffman of Roanoke, Virginia; Six brothers; Troy (Polly) Gill of Roanoke, Virginia; Carlton (Gladys) Poindexter, Daniel (Edith) Poindexter, Donald Poindexter and Willie Poindexter of Bedford; Zebedee Poindexter, Philadelphia, PA.; two sisters; Clessie (Leroy) Turner of Bedford and Elaine Cooley, Newark, Delaware as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. A celebration of Lewis' life will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 26 from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with the Rev. Calvin Price officiating. Interment will follow in the Hales Ford Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 25 from 6 - 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
