Frank Edward King, 90 of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Carriage Hill Retirement Home. He was born on Wednesday, January 4, 1922 in Wythe County, a son of the late John L. King and Lessie Gilbert King. He was a retired carpenter and was a member of Union United Methodist Church. He was also a U.S. Army First Division (Big Red One) veteran having served during World War II. He was a decorated veteran having received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart and participated in five major battle campaigns. Surviving is his wife, Edna Lee Bowyer King; two daughters, Sharon Cooksey & husband, Raymond of Sunset Beach , NC, Betty Fisher & husband, David of Waldorf, MD; three sons, George H. Waldron & wife, Patricia of Bedford, Francis E. King & wife, Nancy of Christiansburg, John E. King of Arlington as well as nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 2 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford. Interment, with military honors will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 12 until the time of the service at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
