Betty Witt Holdren, 80 of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Oakwood Manor Health & Rehab. Center. She was born on Wednesday, December 9, 1931 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Woodson A. Witt and Minnie Mitchell Witt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Rufus Holdren, two sons, Danny & Jeff Holdren and a grandson, Charles Russell Holdren. Betty was a very special lady, and a true Christian, having been a lifelong member of Quaker Baptist Church.. She gave much of herself to others, and would not take or accept anything in return. She was well known for her hard work, love and dedication to her family, and she also was a pretty good cook. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her. Surviving are her daughters, Charlotte H. Arrington & husband, Don, Becky H. Grant & husband, Steve; a son, Charles R. (Chuck) Holdren, Jr. & wife, Sarah; two daughters-in-law, Renee Holdren, Carole Holdren, a sister, Shirley Dean Hubbell; grandchildren, Damon & Joey Arrington, Justin & Katie Holdren, Tucker & Casey Grant, Jeffery Holdren, Lee Holdren & wife, Adrena; great-grandchildren, Cameron & Danielle Holdren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Carilion Bedford Hospice and the nurses at Oakwood Health & Rehab. for their kind and caring nature during our mother's illness. The family requests that those wishing to make memorials to consider Moneta Rescue Squad, c/o Mike Harper, Treasurer, P. O. Box 497, Moneta, VA 24121, Moneta Fire Department, P. O. Box 455, Moneta, VA 24121 or your favorite charity. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. David Timma & Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
