Rodger Lee Johnson, 66 of Big Island, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2012 at his residence. The world has lost the best person that ever lived, the best husband, the best father and a friend to everyone. He died peacefully at home with his family surrounding him. He was born on Saturday, September 22, 1945 in Bedford County , a son of the late Harden Hoston Johnson, Jr. and Lockie Hackworth Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a son, David House. He was a retired employee of Colemen Adams Construction and a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. Surviving is his loving wife of thirty-four years, Becky Johnson; sons, Rodger L. Johnson, Jr. of Minnesota, Wayne House & wife, Kathy of Front Royal; daughter, Rona House & companion, Jeff Spinner, of Goode, Lockie Orange & husband, Jay of Huddleston, Crystal Johnson of Big Island & fiance, Chris Orange, brothers, William Johnson of Prince George, Steve Johnson & wife, Cindy of Hurt; sister, Louise Turner of Hopewell; brother-in-law, Gene Smith & wife, Diane; thirteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one nephew, special friends, Danny Coffee, Barbara & Cary Dillon. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Carilion Bedford Hospice, P. O. Box 985, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 1 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Wayne Murphy and Rev. Bob Sowder officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford and other times at the residence.
