Christine Jeter Nance, 95 of Montpelier, VA passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Westport Nursing Center. She was born on Tuesday, May 29, 1917 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Robert E. Nance, Sr. and Lilly J. Morgan Nance. She wa a graduate of Moneta High Schools in 1935 and completed nursing school at Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg, VA. A highlight of her nursing career was a brief time in the Army Nurse Corps. at the end of World War II. Upon completion of this service, she settled in Oak Ridge, Tennessee where she practiced nursing for the next forty-five years. She loved sports and was a big fan of the Atlanta Braves. She was also an avid bowler for many years and was member of the Women's International Bowling Congress. She was also a member of First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She is survived by her sister, Rachel Nance, of Richmond; three nieces and two nephews. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Morgans Baptist Church, 2086 Morgans Church Road, Bedford, VA 24523. Funeral services will be held at the graveside at Morgans Baptist Church Cemetery on Friday, September 7, 2012 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford. ?
