Robert "Bobby" Hamilton, 65, of Bedford, slipped quietly away into the loving arms of Jesus, on October 18, 2012 at Bedford Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Amherst, Virginia on October 20, 1946 to Dudley and Rosa (Johns) Hamilton. Bobby was retired from Schewels Furniture where he worked as a Truck Driver. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Bedford. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Lonnie and Curtis Hamilton. Surviving is his wife, Shirley Overstreet Hamilton; three brothers, James "Jimmy" of Buena Vista; Dudley of Lynchburg; and Charlie of South Carolina; two sisters, Betty Branham of Monroe and Minnie Pearl Clark of Lynchburg and his best friend Sam "Peewee" Overstreet. Also surviving is one son, Robert "Bobby" of King George, Virginia; a stepson Chester "Jimmy" Bowling Jr. of Bedford; three stepdaughters; Diane West (Sammie) of Grit; Judy Agee of Thaxton; Melissa Dishman (Jim) of Lynchburg and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday October 21, 2012 at 3 PM at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford. Interment to follow at Holy Land USA Cemetery, Dickerson Mill Rd, Bedford. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6 until 8 PM at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
