Obituary of John Pollard JR
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Astor Pollard, Jr., 49 of Evington, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at his residence. He was born on Tuesday, June 25, 1963 in Lynchburg, a son of Rosa Burks Braxton of Forest and the late John Pollard, Sr., although he was raised by his grandmother, Nora Louise Burks of Lynchburg. He was Shipping Manager at Sentry Equipment Erectors, a job that he loved. He was very dedicated to his job and was a true hard-working man. He attended Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy. He loved his God, his wife and his family dearly. He had a compassionate heart and genuinely cared about people. He was funny and often mischevious. He was a man of honor, character and respect. He was faithful to his in-laws and loved them like his own family. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He always wore a smile, and never met a stranger. He loved to work on trucks and for those who lived in a 5 miles radius of him probably heard him revving them up. He loved football - the Steelers was his team. He was a big animal lover and he adored his loyal companion, Mattie. BoobaJohn was his nickname, but he didn't want his friends at work to know it, however his sisters-in-law made sure word got back to them. He loved Christmas, he just couldn't wait to "bust into some packages." He loved life! If you knew John, you were glad you did! In addition to his grandmother and his mother, he is survived by his wife, Angela Dale Campbell Pollard; a daughter, Ashby S. Pollard; the light of his life, his grandson, Kendrew Horseley; three sisters, Cheryl Scott & husband, Bill, Adrienne Gonzalez & Jon, Shanta Braxton; mother-in-law Betty Cox Campbell, three sisters-in-law, Ramona Burnette & husband, David, Carmen Ward & husband, Jamie, Monica Hall & husband, Greg, his nieces & nephews, Blair, Jovan, Keynan, Dakota & Campbell as well as numerous aunts, uncles & cousins. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy, c/o Ken Lester, 1786 School Crossing Road, Lynch Station, VA 24571. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 5, 2012 at 11:00 am at Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Ken Lester & Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 until 8 PM at the Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy. Arrangements are being handled by Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Huddleston.
